Want to Go to The Beach?
1. Sant Feliu de Guixols
If you go north from Tossa del Mar towards the border with France, after about 30 kilometers you will arrive at Sant Feliu de Guixols, another beautiful town on the Costa Brava. San Feliu is very popular in the summer because it has wide and beautiful beaches with calm and sloping waters, several monuments to visit and a vibrant nightlife. The central beach of the town is wide and of fine gravel, with several chiringuitos and restaurants along the seafront. The beach is free, but you will have the possibility to rent umbrellas and deck chairs. To reach San Feliu de Guixols and its beaches from Barcelona the most convenient way is the bus that leaves Estaciò del Norte (metro red line L1 to Arc de Triomf). The journey takes about 1h 40 ‘.
2. Begur
Going up another 30 kilometers towards the border with France there is Begur, one of the prettiest villages on the Costa Brava, with a beautiful castle on top. The city beach is small and can be crowded, but there are several within walking distance from the center, such as Sa Riera, a beach that takes its name from the stream (Riera) that divides it in half. From here begins a path that runs along the sea and goes towards Platja de Pals and leads first to the cove of Illa Roja, and later to Platja del Racó ( Illa Roja is an internationally renowned nudist beach). If you are looking for more tranquility, head to the black sand beach of Sa Tuna. As for Tossa del Mare and the other aforementioned beaches, the most convenient way to reach Begur from Barcelona is the bus that leaves Estaciò del Norte. The train goes to Girona and then you should still take a bus from there.
3. Roses
Among the most beautiful beaches near Barcelona, Roses could not miss! The bay of Roses is located almost on the French border, less than 2 hours drive from Barcelona (2 hours and 15 ‘by bus, always starting from Estaciò del Norte) and is one of the best known and best equipped areas of the Costa Brava. Roses is famous for its long beach (2 kilometers) of white sand, which is divided into three different areas: Playa Nova, Playa Rastrell and Playa Salatar, and is undoubtedly the most comfortable beach both because it is located a step away from the town. and because it offers every type of service (umbrellas, deck chairs, catering, etc.). Roses also has many beautiful coves in the surroundings for those seeking more tranquility like Canyelles Petites, l’Almadrava, Cap Norfeu, Punta Falconera, Jóncols and Montjoi.
4. Cadaques
If you have a car, a few kilometers (but only as the crow flies) from Roses is finally Cadaques, the real gem of the Costa Brava, especially for those who, in addition to the beaches and the sea, are also an art lover. The road to reach it is definitely winding but you will see that it will be worth it! Cadaques is an isolated ancient fishing village that has been frequented for years by artists and intellectuals such as Picasso, Chagall, Matisse and especially Salvador Dali (whose Portlligat House-Museum where the painter lived and worked can be visited) and his stretch of coast offers several small bays and coves. There is the beach of Es Portal, much loved by families with children, the pebble beach of E Pianc and, for those seeking more tranquility, the beach of Pere Fet . To reach Cadaques from Barcelona you have 2 options: 1) train from Plaza de Catalunya to Figueres, then from there 1h by bus (they leave very frequently); 2) bus from Estaciò del Norte (about 2h and 30 ‘).
5. Altafulla
We close this review on the most beautiful beaches near Barcelona with Altafulla beach on the Costa Dorada, 80 kilometers south of Barcelona. The town is known for its white houses along the coast, for the beautiful castle and for the remains of the medieval walls. Its beach extends for about a kilometer between Cap Gros up to La Roca del Gaia and is a great beautiful beach of fine and golden sand that offers every type of service (rental of umbrellas, deck chairs, bars and small kiosks). Altafulla is also perfect for a day trip because it can be easily reached by train from Barcelona starting from Sants station and the journey takes 1 hour.
